Diethanolamine is a colorless to yellowish viscous liquid at room temperature, with a weak ammonia taste. Diethanolamine is soluble in water, ethanol and acetone, but has low solubility in organic solvents. It is weakly basic and can react with acids to form salts. Its amino and hydroxyl groups can react with many compounds, such as reacting with fatty acids to form amides and reacting with ethylene oxide to form triethanolamine.

 

Use
Gas purification: Diethanolamine is widely used in gas purification in natural gas and petroleum refining processes, especially for the removal of acidic gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). It can effectively remove pollutants and improve gas quality by chemically reacting with these acidic gases to produce renewable intermediates.
