Propionic acid:Also known as primary oleic acid, is a short-chain saturated fatty acid, its aqueous solution is weakly acidic, but corrosive, steam is irritating to the skin and respiratory tract. At room temperature and pressure, propionic acid is a colorless, clear oil liquid, with a bad smell of rancidity and pungent smell, and can be miscible with water, ethanol, chloroform and ether.

 

USE
1. Used as organic reagent, esterifying agent and plasticizer. Because propionic acid can dissolve most organic matter, propionic acid is also a common organic solvent.
2, propionic acid can be used in some pickling and polishing solutions, as a buffer in weakly acidic solutions.
3, synthesis of propionic acid derivatives. Propionic acid can be used in the production of propionate, which is widely used as a catalyst and preservative in food. It can also be used in the synthesis of its esters and their derived intermediates. Propionic acid esters can be widely used in pesticide herbicides, resin modifiers, sterilizers, and plasticizers for cigarette filters.
4, the determination of aromatic diamines, gas chromatography analysis standards, can also be used to inhibit the growth of mold in insect cell culture.
5, used as a spice intermediate, propionic acid in butter, milk, sour cheese and acetic acid, can be used as raw materials for synthetic spices.
6, used as pharmaceutical intermediates, such as propionic anhydride as propionylation agent used in medicine, antibiotic drugs such as keramycin propionate.
