Diethyl carbonate (CAS: 105-58-8, English name :Diethyl carbonate) is a dicarbonate of ethanol, colorless and clear liquid at room temperature. It is mainly used as a solvent for cellulose nitrate, resins and some drugs (such as erythromycin), and as an intermediate for organic synthesis (such as phenobarbital and pyrethrin). It can also be used in the electrolyte of lithium batteries.

Synthesis of heterocyclic compounds Many substrates can react with diethyl carbonate compounds to produce heterocyclic compounds, such as 1, 2-amino alcohols and diethyl carbonate to produce zolidinone compounds.
