Chemical property:
Hydrolysis reaction: succinic anhydride reacts with water to form succinic acid.
Alcoholysis reaction: Reaction with alcohols can form the corresponding ester.
Amolysis: Reaction with ammonia at high temperatures to produce succinimide.
Reaction with Grignard reagent: γ-oxycarboxylate can be formed.
REDOX reaction: succinic anhydride can be reduced to butanediol, can also be oxidized to succinic acid and so on.
Polymerization reaction: succinic anhydride can be polymerized to produce polymers such as polysuccinic anhydride.
Synthesis method:
Butene oxidation method: butene reacts with oxygen under the action of catalyst to produce succinic anhydride, which is one of the commonly used methods in industry.
Diene polymerization: succinic anhydride can also be obtained by diene polymerization.
Succinic acid dewatering method: succinic acid is heated and dehydrated into succinic anhydride under the action of dehydrating agent.
Applications:

They have better properties of the curling resistance and waterprooffor the coatings which are made from succinic anhydride. 0n pharmaceuticals, itis used to make Vitamin A and Sulfa drugs. 0n pesticides, it can be used to produce fungicides, insecticides and plant growth regulators. Succinic anhydride and its derivatives can be used as the catalyst for olefin polymerization, cross-linking agents for ester polymerization, light stabilizers for high polymers, ultraviolet absorbers, and also be used as auxiliary agents for petroleum industries.
