Ethyl formate is used as a solvent for cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate, etc., and as a fungicide, larvicide and fumigant for food, cigarettes, cereals, dried fruits, etc. Ethyl formate as a flavor can be used to blend peach, banana, apple, apricot, pineapple, berries and other aromas, but also as butter, brandy, sweet wine, whiskey and other spices. Ethyl formate is also an intermediate in organic synthesis.
